Some generators don't owe anyone anything. A 1997 Panda generator that's been sitting in a Formula boat has already had a long run - but that doesn't mean it's done. We don't see old equipment and assume it's a lost cause. We dig in and figure out what it actually needs.

Here's what we were working with: a generator that wasn't cranking, which pointed us straight to the starter. Tracking down parts for a unit this age isn't always easy, but that's where our network matters. J and I Automotive in Marshfield came through with the right starter, and that's the kind of thing that keeps a repair moving forward instead of sitting on a lift waiting.

Generator work on a marine unit like this Panda is a little different than your typical shop job. The wiring is compact, the components are tucked in tight, and everything has been exposed to moisture and vibration for decades. You have to know what you're looking at. We work through it methodically - no guessing, no throwing parts at it and hoping something sticks.

The electrical side of a boat generator is where a lot of shops tap out. Relay blocks, wiring harnesses, ignition components - all of it needs to be diagnosed correctly before anything gets replaced. That's what we do. Whether it's a boat generator, an RV generator, or a commercial unit, the approach is the same: find the real problem and fix it right.

We're still working through this one, but it's coming together. That's how most of these older units go - they just need someone willing to stay with it.
